Song, Choan-Seng

(b. 1929)

   Theologian.

   Song was the principal of a theological college in Taiwan and he later taught at the Pacific School of Religion in California. He advocates a transposition of the ‘Israel-centred’ view of Christian history and argues that Asian symbols from non-Christian religions can aid understanding. He goes as far as to say: ‘The Word has to assume Asian flesh and plunge into the agony and the conflict of the mission of salvation’. Among his many books are Third-Eye Theology and Theology from the Womb of Asia.
